Southern Style Living in Harlem by danimatian

Astor Row is significant to New York architecture history because it abandoned the way of thinking where residences are all a stoop’s length away from the street.

These buildings are all set back with actual lawns and Southern inspired Victorian style porches.

Built by William Astor in the 1880s, they went into severe neglect up until they were designated landmarks in 1981. By 1990 most of the porches had been repaired to their original splendor.
