i remember going to the Baltimore Zoo back in…i’d say kindergarten or so. i usually go to the Washington zoo, simply because it is free [and i’m not allowed to drive into Baltimore].

the main attraction there [for me at least] was the penguins. there are no penguins in the washington zoo, which upsets me [since penguins are my favorite animal…], and there aren’t even any penguins in the Baltimore AQUARIUM, which i think is ludicrous.

We spent about 4 hours at the zoo…and i’d say a good hour and a half to two-hours looking at the penguins…we even got to see FEEDING TIME :D

    Not worth it!

I visited the zoo today, which was the day after the zoo’s big annual fundraiser, so there were the remains of the big party tents and the shuttles were not running. It was a decent zoo, not the best I have been to, but not the worst, either. Kinda on the small side and more oriented to kids than most. My GPS unit took me on a different route to and from the zoo, and neither took me through a good neighborhood. Definitely not in a good part of town!

I will be in Baltimore the second week of June and hope to visit the zoo when I am there.

it’s fun, and I used to go here all the time as a kid. but I’ve heard some stuff has been changed recently. when the name changed from the Baltimore Zoo to the Maryland Zoo, that really threw me for a loop.

It was Brew at the Zoo and I got inebriated and insisted upon seeing the polar bears.

Two words: Polar Bears!  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

I love the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. The majority of it’s mainstays are either still there or have been improved. The new Polar Bear exhibit is magnificent, allowing viewers to watch them swim in their pool through glass. The penguins still have their little island to swim and eat in and the monkeys have a vast enclosure viewable through glass. The Giraffes and Camels are always comical and the Children’s Zoo section is one of the highest rated in the nation. The National Zoo in D.C., although free, pales in comparison.

It’s true that the area surrounding the park (Druid Hill and Druid Hill Park) is not the best area but as long as you stay in the park there’ll be no problems.
