Eiheiji is one of two main temples of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism. Eiheiji is east of Fukui City in Fukui prefecture of Japan & the main training temple of Soto Zen. The standard training for a priest in Eiheiji is a two year period of practice.

Dōgen Zenji ~ a Japanese Zen Buddhist teacher and founder of the Soto school of Zen in Japan. He was a leading religious figure and important philosopher. “Zenji” is a title meaning zen master, and the name Dogen means roughly “Source of the Way.”
