One of the worlds most beautiful gardens. I spent a great afternoon walking through the gardens and around the palace. I particularly enjoyed the art that was so prevalent around the walk ways. This is a great place to spend an afternoon.

came here couple times b4, but this time is different,coz i first went to west side-XiDi. which is the most beautiful part of Summer Palace, since its quite far from each gate of Summer Palace, not many visitors came here. so its very quiet and peaceful.

if you come to Summer Palace, please dont miss Xidi, it definitely worth you walk miles.

I was fortunate to make friends with some Chinese students who took me here one afternoon. They were obviously proud to show it off to a Westerner, and I could understand why. The palace complex is right on the lake, and the lush vegetation rejuvenates you after all the pollution of the city. Take a long walk underneath the pillories and admire handpainted workmanship. Admire the marble ship and wonder out loud if its construction really did bankrupt the Empire. Watch hopeful suitors row their lovers across the lake, and jump in a paddleboat when you ~~literally~~ feel like getting your feet wet.
