New York Public Library

A lovely old building in pleasant surroundings. We got here too close to closing time and our visit was a little rushed.

But you know what I thought of when I was in here? Movies. Specifically “The Ninth Gate” with Johnny Depp, and “The Day After Tomorrow” with Jake Gyllenhaal, especially when they were burning all those tax books to keep warm :)

Excellent collection to promote diversity and multiculturalism.

I was in a bad mood that day, and missing home, but decided to go in as I was walking past it. The building was beautiful, a woman had a heated argument with the security guard over checking her bag (he didn’t notice her showing it to him because he was checking mine, and then asked to see her bag kind of gruffly, and she said – also gruffly – that she had shown it to him twice already.

Anyway, I want to go back to actually see an exhibition instead of an argument.

I’ve always been intrigued by this building after seeing it in movies, such as . That Winnie the Pooh is there helps, too. I’ll be attending a concert in a few weeks at Bryant Park, which is right next door; however, the concert will be over well before the library opens at 10 a.m. So I’ll at least look over the outside, if I can’t find something else to do/look out until it opens.

Just a great place to sit on the steps and enjoy people watching.
