Green Valley

Great place for a winter trip, especially for anyone 50+. Great recreation centers, wonderful geography, cactus, friendly people.

Rumor has it that Walter Jenks came out here to watch birds and was gored by a steer. His body, next to a backpack full of marijuana, was discovered by hikers, and later run over several times by bikers. Now his ghost haunts the experimental rangelands between Madera Canyon and Green Valley.

Hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot hot. I’m from Irvine (and now live in San Luis Obispo.) We do not do 110 degrees in the shade in Irvine. It is not for us. :) But there WAS a pretty good fireworks show on the 4th of July if I remember correctly.

... if you don’t mind retirement communities. That’s primarily what Green Valley, just 20 miles south of Tucson, is. Nice views of the Santa Rita Mountains, though, and when I got off work the other morning, the air smelled of Pecans (our local export).
