Absolute must see when in Birmingham by zenob437

I went on a Sunday, so it was free but I donated a couple of dollars anyway. At first I thought was going to be the usual walking around a reading a bunch of stuff with some interesting pictures to add some flavor. But then I was directed to theater where I watched a very interesting short film on how blacks contributed to the early years of Birmingham. Then this really cool thing happens. The screen goes up and behind it is the main passage into the exhibit. The exhibit includes scenes from the lives of black americans during the times of segregation. The visitors experience the settings and the sight and sounds of the civil rights movement. I don’t want to give away what else is in the exhibit but it was an awesome tour. Well worth the admission if you happen to go on a weekday.

My Trip by SavvyNLady

I finally got the time to go and visit this place on Friday; It took $10 for me to get in, but I wasn’t complaining not one bit; Once you go in, you see a short film about Birmingham became a city and the role segregation played in that; Then you got to walk around and see the various exhibits that they have there; I really enjoyed it; But if you want to save some money, GO ON SUNDAYWHEN IT’S FREE.

This place features a very powerful exhibit that documents the history of the Civil Rights Movement in America, many of the events taking place in the South. There’s also an exhibit on World Human Rights, and it’s quite insightful and educational.

I worked as a volunteer docent in at the Civil Rights Institute when it first opened. At least once a week, people would come into the museum who had marched, or remembered the sit ins, or who wanted to tell their story. This is an amazing point of healing for the city and I highly recommend it!

Was going in August by SavvyNLady

My brother, brother in law and I and kids were going to go there in late August, but they got scared by Miss Katrina; Scared them good; and made me mad; I still want to go though; and hopefully if they come for Thanksgiving, we can go then;
