I miss you by sipes23

Dear Escanaba,

You ruined the rest of the midwest for me. The small town charm, the rough-around-the-edges feel, the neighborhood grocery stores, the lake. I can’t have that in Illinois.

I miss my home on the Yooper Riviera. Save me a pasty for next time I’m up.

I’m reserching a friend’s family tree, and apparently her mother’s mother was born in Escanaba. So the next time I head to Big Bay, I’m going to stop and check out the library for more info.

Escanaba would be my place of birth, but not my favorite place.. it’s definately pretty in the spring/summer though

Escanaba is a beautiful place with a very small-town feel. Living there isn’t much fun, but visiting to see the scenery an dget a feel for a small town with white-picket fences is nice.

Another "meh" place by Peter

Escanaba is kind of like my hometown – a dying resource industry town in the hinterlands. The broad main street is almost empty of life most of the time. The beautiful old lakefront homes and the fine Lake Michigan beach park redeem the place some, though. I also give it thumbs up for the pasties. All in all, though, I’m not sure I’d recommend it as a place other than to pass through.
