Searcy

I have to say it’s worth visiting, because otherwise I would find it depressing that I live here. Not too much to see though. Better off going to Little Rock.

Searcy is home to our nearest Wal-Mart, the only one in White County. That’s a big deal in these parts! Oddly enough though, the town is also home to two Wal-Mart Distribution Centers (warehouse where the merchandise is shipped from). The great thing about Searcy is that regardless of where you live in the county, you are always likely to run into to someone you know, as that is where most people in the county do business.

Searcy is also known around the state for its beautiful display of lights during the holidays. The White County Courthouse, Berryhill Park, and White County Medical Center are some of the biggest displays. Worth a trip to travel the Natural State’s trail of lights!

I moved to Searcy in 1990, after spending fifteen years in various parts of the United States and half a year in Europe. Admittedly, my adjustment to life in a small southern town was uneasy. But I have learned to appreciate what Searcy has to offer. (Primarily, it has my family to offer; if they moved away, I would happily follow!) But on a more serious note, some of the town’s features include:

• great public schools
• 245-bed hospital
• 8-theater cinema
• Harding College
• Harding Academy
• Plenty of city recreation facilities
• Much, much more!
