Port of Spain (the third largest city in Trinidad and Tobago) is like no other city in the Caribbean. A reflection of the economic rich twin-island state of Trinidad and Tobago, the city is filled with high-rise buildings, town centers, bustling roadways, and active suburbs.
Currently Port of Spain’s tallest building, the Nicholas Towers (which is also the tallest building in the English Speaking Caribbean) houses Trinidad and Tobago Stock Exchange. This is the 19th sky scraper in the capital city.
Port of Spain is beautiful, and shopping around is highly recommended, however, great care on your security is advised. Pick-pocketting is a hazard, but the chances of being pick-pocketted is slim, as I’ve never had any first-hand experience of this, but heard the random few.
Another problem point with Port-of-Spain is the confusion of getting around the city as the problem of poor street signs can be a nuisance to new visitors.
Port-of-Spain on the bright side is rich with history… Being the birth place of the steel drum, the center stage for the biggest Carnival in the Caribbean and the home to the Caribbean Court, and mas camps it is no wonder why this fast developing city is considered the New York of the Caribbean
