The neighborhood is correctly known as “Virginia-Highland”. There is no “s” to be found in the name.

But a lot of the old-time locals butcher it too.

The name itself is derived from the two streets that cross the heart of the area: Virgina and Highland Avenues.

first timers-i’d go during the week, and before 3pm before it gets crowded and hard to find a convient parking spot. then you can stroll at your leisure.
and parking is available behind 20th century furniture.
go to Murphy’s for brunch on sunday.mmmm

The Highlands are one of my favorite Atlanta neighborhoods. It’s a great place to walk around. There are many small boutiques and shops to look in, restaurants to eat at, and you can walk to Piedmont Park, but most of all there are bars many bars. Unlike the bars in say Buckhead, the Highlands bars have pretty laid back pub type atmospheres. The only drawback to the area is the parking. Carpool, carpool, carpool, and expect to have to parallel park. If you get there after nine o’clock you might be parking a few blocks away.

    Virginia-Highlands - A Grown-Up Buckhead  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

The Virginia-Highlands area of Atlanta is rich with nightlife and historic neighborhoods. It’s a great place to go if you want to party but not have to deal with the “youngsters” hanging out in Buckhead. Visit Surin of Thailand for awesome Thai food! Right down the street you’ll find at least 15 great bars from blues to Irish to good ol’ rock-n-roll.
