Five of the most difficult yet most rewarding years of my life occurred here, and it will always be a part of my soul. over 7 years agoQuaint, adorable college town. by AdrianneTheHessThe beer is cheap, the pizza’s good, the locals tolerate me. The busline is almost acceptable, in terms of usability- to and from Bangor. Pat’s Pizza is sort of an amazing bit of retro Americana. It’s such a dive, so much character, and the milkshakes are great. :) There is an beautiful spot on the Stillwater river, with a rope swing, and lots of natural beauty. It’s one of the most refreshing swims I have ever had. Also notable, sometimes decent acts get up to the Maine Center for the Arts, or Ushuia, the possibly closing club. over 7 years agoUniversity of Maine, and a very good library by JP CreightonAlso, not far from here is what remains of the homeland of the Penobscot people. There’s an island with an interesting community on it, which can be reached from the shores of the Penobscot by canoe or kayak, or by bridge, I think. over 7 years ago |
