Why I want to go to this place

King Philip II (married Cleopatra in 337) is called the King Tut of Greece. This is a museum where his stuff is housed. (Including a gold larnax with his bones).

Worth visiting!

Worth visiting for ancient history buffs...

...But maybe not for many people otherwise. Seeing the tomb of King Philip II, and the artifacts inside, was outstanding! But to be honest, if you don’t know or care much about him or his history, Vergina might not be worth the drive from Salonica.

This is related to a goal of mine on 43things...

The tomb of Phillip the second is supposedly here. Within the tomb excavated in the year of my birth, 1977, are supposed depictions of Alexander and Phillip. It’s argued that the tomb is that of a later descendant of the Macedonian king.
