Walking tour

My husband and I were in Chicago for a long weekend. On Sunday, he wanted to watch football, which was fine with me, so I could go on a walking tour offered by CAF. It was the modern architecture and skyscrapers tour. Although it was bitterly cold, I really enjoyed it. Definitely have to do the early skyscrapers tour next time.

The gift shop (where the tour started and ended) was a pleasant surprise, too.

a walk through history

In addition to a kickass gift shop, the Chicago Architecture Foundation offers walking tours and riverboat tours that highlight Chicago architecture. I think Chicago is an excellent example of a city whose buildings offer a fascinating introduction to the itss history and culture.

I was in Chicago this weekend and went on a fascinating two-hour walking tour of early skyscrapers, dating from the late 1800s to the 1930s. Our guide was amiable and well-informed, and pointed out so many architectural details that I’d seen over and over again, but had never really given much thought to how it fit into larger historical trends. I’ll definitely try to go on another tour the next time I go.
