The Greatest Game of ALL TIME by Chuxtar
For over fifty years my grandfather has been garenteed 2 reserved seats to every home game for the Buckeyes football season. It would be too far a drive for Grandpa to sit and watch each game at the stadium so there seems to have been a system here for a number of years. First he chooses if he would like to go to any certain game that season. Then he would ask six of his kids if they want the tickets for a small fee. Lastly he would sell any remaining tickets at full price.
If anyone is unaware, the Buckeye’s biggest rivalry is that of the University of Michigan. Of course this has made for somewhat of a dispute every other year when ticket distributing takes place and UM is coming to the Buckeye state. For some reason, my dad’s baby sister seems to have always gotten the tickets to the Ohio State – Michigan game, though my dad would ask each year, an ample time in advance. This past year marked the greatest OSU-Michigan game to ever be played. On top of that, it was announced nation-wide as what would be the greatest college game of ANY to ever be played. Everyone in my family knew this and knew it would be a great honor to have those tickets. It was to be expected, however, that Kelli would once again have the tickets.
It was just after school let out one day in October that my dad called to tell me he would get the tickets this year and that he would take me. I was overwhelmed with excitement in hearing this news. It was about three weeks later that he told me about my brother trying to hold back tears when he found that he would not go to this game. So, my dad gave one ticket to my oldest brother for his birthday. Tears were not held back, then.
The other ticket was still mine. I told my dad I didn’t feel right about it. I thought my brother would appriciate his seat at the game a lot more if he were sitting next to my dad. This was only slightly out of generousity on my part. You see, before my brother was wed about 4 years ago, he was not around very often by his own choice. I didn’t know him very well and had held a grudge for years of resentment. I was afraid to get to know him because I was afraid I would get hurt. Well, my dad gave the seat back to me at the last minute. I went with my brother and we had a blast. Ohio State won what is still known as The Greatest Game of ALLTIME.
