We stop at the Gorge Bridge each time we drive back from NC on Rt. 19. It’s quite impressive: the view from the bridge, and the view of the bridge from below. Beautiful!

I have lived in WV for nearly 20 years now, My mom and I moved here when I was about a year old, and every year we go camping along the New River, we have a lot of fun Swimming, fishing and sitting near the camp fire roasting marshmallows. I look forward to every summer, just so I can go camping with my family on the New River. It has been a wonderful experience for me.

I went here on a “rafting wedding.” The bride and groom got married on the banks and then everyone went rafting. Awesome.

The first time I went to this place  — 2 years ago

The first time I went to the New River was when the Gorge Bridge was still under construction. I was just a kid and my parents have pictures of me standing on the huge concrete pylons on which the bridge now sits.

The area is beautiful. Thank goodness there are still places like this to visit where there aren’t any skyscrapers in sight.

Whew! I have done the Upper and the Lower New River. I am still too chicken to do the Gorge…I had SO much fun on the river. I had a great guide. I also went in June…the afternoons were still a little cold…BRRR!!!

Becoming a rafting queen  — 2 years ago

I didn’t even know how much I could love rafting…and then I came here. Floating down some of the river on my back, or involuntarily jumping off that huge rock are things and feelings I won’t ever forget. Even the sunburn and the dorky outfits were worth it. The New River Gourge is so beautiful – and I did enjoy seeing West Virginia during the daylight for once.

The New River Gorge is a great place to visit. The park is very nice with good trails with great views. Superb hiking. Amazing that this area is not more known. Or, perhaps, maybe that’s why it is still so nice.
