A review of this place: awful airport

Few airports are particularly fun, but most aren’t this awful. Woe to the connecting passenger: after being shuffled up, down, and around; riding a pointless shuttle bus; and being re-re-scanned by security, you’ll be dumped into a shopping mall and forbidden from proceeding to your gate until a short time before the flight actually departs.

It’s an airport. Nothing special. If you’re flying anywhere in Africa from the States, you’ll probably have a layover here. I was worried that it would be really confusing, because of it’s size, but it’s not.

I flew through LHR both on my way to Dublin and on the way back home (Canada).

At the beginning of the trip, I was dead tired after an overnight flight with very little sleep, so I didn’t much feel like taking in the atmosphere. I must say though, I had no trouble getting where I needed to go – a shuttle bus and a subway all just to get to the other side of the airport seems like a hassle, but I found everything to be very efficient.

On my way back home, I had no time for anything. I booked my connection a little too tightly, so I basically had to run!

Next time I fly through or if I get to visit London, I will make sure to give myself a few hours to walk around and check it all out. There certainly seems to be a lot going on, and as major hub, it’d be great for people watching.

Ah Heathrow

Yup. I really have nothing against it, in fact I shouldn’t be surprised that it is huge, a bit hard to get around and generally an involved experience no matter how you slice it. I just remember most, though, the one time years ago that our delayed flight - which had to stop at Manchester unexpectedly while the radar was being fixed over at Heathrow’s control tower or something - finally landed, had to pull all the way around the entire complex, got up to our gate and then…the doorway jammed and we couldn’t leave the plane. There were complaints.
