Well,

It is cheap in a way for all tourists. You might not really get the warmth and charmth that Goa offers you, becos Mangalore is a ‘business’ hub full of bank employees (middle class), there is something nice to it which is endearing.

Hotel bookings are easy and cheap, Travelling is cheap too, though you might have to settle for something just cosy, nothing too luxurious, climate is hot and sweaty, good for your being, Food is cheap and boy every good hotel offers everything to fill up every tastes around the world. Again, dont expect exotic names, though most of the things available in London as xyz shrimps is available in a better taste as ‘Sungta curry’ in Mangalore :-)

Also, dont expect to be spoilt for choices, because there is only handful of options and everything is served good, if you even pay something extra…well, if you are a tourist, just be nice and polite to the people. They will go all the way to woo you just for that accented ‘Thank you’.

Places to visit are also, all similar, unless you are really here on a ‘National Geographic’ mission. But the ones which are available, like the ones mentioned by lot of folks here before, are good and peaceful. Not overcrowded, in fact, very very less polluted and populated. Look out for inquisitive ‘youngsters’ but education and respect are the main issue here and good communication tips to deal with such people usually helps. You dont find too many MIS-incidents happening here :-)

Well, the beaches are of pristine quality, mainly because they are not so inhabitated as in Goa. Again you will miss the ‘crowd’, but if you going to relax, nothing better than Mangalore. I have taken, rather the other way, my wife, then my fiancee, on a small boat ride across the backwaters behing Urva, to the beach, which has a Church, and a bustop, in case you miss the boat back. Well, it just saves time, no other hazards, because I always feel you can really walk across mangalore even if you are lost.

So if you the one who just wants to relax, or just ‘wanna go away from everything’ (sad) in other terms, just come here and sit in this calm atmoshpere for somedays. There is a chance that you might used to the laziness, but thats OK !! After all people here perpetually sleep in the afternoons afetr Lunch. Siesta!!

So enjoy folks. If you find any problem here, just write to me and lemme see if I can accommodate you in my house :-)

Great and splendid visit by Taaraang

we went there some… 5 guys. The place was awsome. It was jan when we went there and the climate was really wonderful. best thing i liked abt place were the nice, clean beaches. The beaches were so calm.. smooth that u can sit there for hours doing nothing. Then the best things to do that will be going to St, marry island. Its a nice place near to malpe beach. you have to take a 1/2 hour boat journey to reach there….

The food there is awesome. Please who like sea food at cheap rate will really have good time.

I went there on a 4 day trip, if youre coming in by air, then the landing is definitely one of the more breathtaking ones youll experience, and yes Ive landed in honkongs old airport as well and this one would rate second to that! the place itself is quaint with very nice helpful people. Its a small town with a nice beach closeby and rich in culture so if you want to unwind, this is the palce to go to!

My Hometown by Janice

This is where my folks hail from… My hometown and also hometown to some famous Indian celebraties viz. Ashwaryia Rai, Shilpa Shetty, etc.

I need to visit it more often to explore it’s virgin & unexplored beauty, but trust me this place has moved a long way since i visited it as a kid!! Good place to go on a ‘no fuss, inexpensive, explorative’ holiday.
