Decatur

The first place I lived in GA was Sandy Springs, and I absolutely hated it!! I worked in Dunwoody, which is Hell on Earth, and I dreamed, no fantasized, about moving back home to Texas. Unfortunately, that was not an option, so I moved to Decatur last year—I love it! The people are very nice, and it is so eclectic and fun! I rarely venture into Atlanta, but when I have to, at least it is quick and easy to get there!

Decatur is a well kept secret from many. I love the different feels of Decatur. One need only to follow Hwy 155 and experience many different areas of Decatur. I’d suggest start out on 155 the north end as it butts against Lithonia. On that end, there are large houses. I’d then keep straight down 155 to pass through middle class housing straight down Flat Shoals as it turns into Candler Road. Candler Road is known for South DeKalb Mall. That is a well known mall that has long been the hang out of the locals. If you visit the food court, I suggest that you find the time to get some chicken wings from American Deli. It is a force to be reckoned with.

Upons leaving the mall, turn left and you are back on 155. Cross over I20, and you are well on your way to down town Decatur. I’d stop at Agnes Scott and enjoy the scenary. Upon leaving Agnes Scott, I’d then cross the rail road tracks, and follow that street to Church St. Church St, is one of the coolest streets ever. Go to That Potter Place. It should be on your left right after the Decatur MARTA station. Park your car, and feel free to roam around.

Trees, trees, and more trees. 40 minute drive to the mountains and waterfalls. 10 minute drive to downtown Atlanta. Funky festivals. Great architecture. Good people.
