Bacharach

We were heading down the Rhine having booked a place at another hostel when the boat captain announced the stop at Bacharach. When he mentioned the hostel operating in the castle at the top of the hill, my ears perked up and we got off the boat. That’s how we ended up spending a night in Burg Stahleck.

Bacharach is a well preserved Medieval German town. It is named in honor of Bacchus so, appropriately, after dinner, we headed into town to a place recommended by good ol’ Rick Steves: Weingut Fritz Bastian. We got happy sampling the carousel of local wine :)

This very small town of a little over 2,000 has great wine and really nice people. Very romantic. I would love to go back for the wine festivals.
