Where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean by daydreamer

This is the most northwesterly point of the North Island. Maoris believe that the spirits of their dead travel via the Cape to the underworld (“Reinga” means “underworld”). The ocean views are beautiful both from the top of the cliff looking towards Cape Maria van Diemen to the west, and from the nearby lighthouse.

Great place.. by queen_of_denial

its sort of obligatory to go to the top of the island, just to say you have but it is worth it. I’ve only been there in hellish weather so didn’t get the best experience. The sand dunes are incredible. I hate the windy roads though always get carsick…

I love this place by chezle75

I grew up around this area. There’s nothing like it, it’s beautiful, majestic and spiritual.

Beautiful! From the lighthouse at Cape Reinga, you can see the place where the Pacific Ocean meets the Tasman Sea. It was beautiful and one of the highlights of my trip to New Zealand.
