It’s free, messes up your hair (if you’re out on deck), and the wind is like WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. It’s a great feeling.

Best reason to visit: it’s FREE. Yes, free. No fine print. FREE.

It’s half hour each way. On the way to Staten Island you get a great view of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. On the way back, the BEST view of Manhattan.

Did I mention it’s free? Go!

If want to see the Statue of Liberty, Governor’s Island, Ellis Island, Downtown Manhattan, Brooklyn, miscellaneous bridges, and New Jersey power plants from afar, or just want to get the hell off of Staten Island, the ferry can do that.

I lived in NYC for 8 years before I took the ferry to a friend’s house in Saint George. I kept making excuses for not visiting — I’m a Mahattanite, and I rarely leave my own little island — but the ferry is a wonderful trip. The views of the harbor and islands are amazing. It’s also a great way to see the sunset…
