Probably my favorite place on earth.
that is really all. It is truly paradise. Baby sea turtles, rays, fish, sea cucumbers, coral reef, bluest water ever. absolutely stunning.

Nature wins
Heron Island is one of the islands in the barrier reef where nature has won out over noisy entertainment.
It is in a coral cay, so you can snorkel right off the beach and see lots of brightly coloured coral, fish, turtles etc. It is also nice to go walking and see the birdlife.
On my trip there in 1987 I not only learnt how to snorkel but I learnt how to swim, such ws the impetus with a place so beautiful. At the time I was there you could also go for walks on the reef at low tide, and see more than you see diving in many other places. I’m not sure if they still do this… I wonder if it damages the coral.

Nature Lover's Retreat
Heron Is is gorgeous but it’s not for party animals!
It’s great for nature lovers, bird watching, viewing the annual turtle-hatching and for some amazing snorkelling & diving.
If you can afford it, take the helicopter transfer instead of the 2hr boat ride.
