A review of this place: All-American Bowl Band Meal  — 6 months ago

    Worth visiting!

Its a nice view of the city. We were here for the All-American Bowl back in 86. With 300+ of us there, there wasn’t a whole lot of room or time to look around. The view of Birmingham was nice though. Baby Do’s Matchless Mine Restaurant was good too. Do them both on your trip.

Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 year ago

You’ll never find any better views of the city from anywhere. The museum is pretty good considering how new the place is. The park is very friendly and hospitable. Great for the family!

The grass is just so kept and green.

My friends decided to pull a blanket out of our car (we were on a road trip) and put it on the grass. We sat there all afternoon, reading books on Vulcan’s grass. We rolled down the hills like children, gaining momentum until we couldn’t stop ourselves even if we tried. We tried to figure out where we were by stepping and walking over the map built into the concrete.

Good times. the park itself isn’t that amazing, but bring good company and it will be.

What would Birmingham be, without the Moon over Homewood?

Pants are optional, at least for Vulcan.

I went here yesterday (August 24th 2006) with my boyfriend, Dustin.. I was kinda shaky at the top cause you can see through the floor thing and I am a little scared of heights.. but it was really cool! Pretty view!

Childhood memory  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

I remember the first time I visited the Vulcan as a child. It was in the mid 60s; the park was so much different then. It didn’t have an elevator so you had to climb the stairs to the top. You would think a child could handle it but I was out of breath by the time we got to the top. The park’s update is nice but it has nothing on the original.

I stopped in here on my way back from the Gulf to Chattanooga last year. I was very impressed with it. They have recently renovated the whole park and added a museum.

Something would be amiss about Birmingham if it didn’t have Vulcan atop Red Mountain showing his bare behind. When I was a kid, he held a torch that had a green and red lights. As I recall, if someone was killed on the interstate that night, the red lights were turned on. You could go anywhere in the city and see Vulcan. It’s a symbol of how Birmingham was built upon the steel industry. When I traveled on the road, I always knew that I was home when I saw him.
