Red River Gorge

This is an absolutely bueatiful place and has some great trails…We went on one that was about 5 miles one way and I thought I would die before I got back to the car!!! But I would do it agian. We stayed in a cabin with Chop Chestnut Cabin Rentals called Turkey Cove. All in all a great time and we had lots of laughs when we opened the grill and a chipmonk ran out : )

There are some long sport climbs here, and it’s very different from all the volcanic stuff in the Northwest. I met up with some climbing friends from Texas and the Baltimore/DC area, so it was like a reunion. There is an unbelievable amount of stuff to climb—I spent 4 days there and only went through about 6 pages of the 200 page guidebook (which is apparently so out of date after 2 years that there’s a new one coming out this fall).

Definitely worth going. The sights are awesome. We’ve gone the last couple of years on Memorial Day weekend. If you do this, make sure to get there EXTREMELY early or make reservations. Hiking, canoing, rock climbing, camping…..so much fun!
