A wildly unbelievable event. Nomads, pilgrims, gypsies, snake charmers, tourists, hindu priests, and lots of camels! Something to definitely see in your lifetime.

Wasn’t quite as touristy as people say it has become. It was still mostly a real camel fair back then.

Pushkar Fair (2004) by Katinka

I went to Pushkar Camel Fair in Rajasthan in November 2004. It’s fun, but at festival time the town fills up with both tourists and people eager to sell their wares to the tourists. If you visit town at the beginning of the fair it is quieter and you get a better chance to wander in the fair grounds without being harassed to go on a camel cart ride, etc.

It’s a great place for photos though, and I’ve never seen so many camels in one place in my life :)

Pushkar’s also a nice cruisy town to visit when the fair isn’t on.
