the drive itself is worth it...
I think it’s about 20 miles from the Seward Highway turn-off to the actual town of Hope, but the drive itself is worth it. There’s a fantastic place to stop and eat lunch and I don’t remember the name of it but I think it’s the only place in town. Get the homemade Hungarian mushroom soup. It’s out of this world delicious! If you don’t like, let me know and I will personally reimburse you for it.

Hope is tiny...
And that’s exactly why I like it. There is at least one campground, but a lot of people were camping at various turn-offs on the main road, which I thought was pretty neat. We’ll be visiting again for sure.

Worth visiting!
A short drive from Anchorage.
As you’re driving along Turnagain Arm towards Girdwood, you can actually see Hope on the other side of the arm, if you know what to look for. It’s a nice little village with a couple of hundred inhabitants. There are two campsites, the big one all the way through town, and a smaller one just a little bit before you get to town. It takes two to two and a half hours to get there from Anchorage. You’ll see the Hope cutoff shortly after you’ve turned south on the Seward Highway.
It’s also home to absolutely one of the best restaurants in Alaska, Tito’s Discovery Cafe. Basic “American” cooking, with a lot of local produce, and the pies are absolutely amazing.
