Very few redeeming qualities by Lindsey

I really keep waiting for GF to have some redeeming qualities. Who knows, maybe in the far future. It is growing economically, albeit VERY slowly. It still fails to have a bookstore. It fails to really have anything, especially if you get technical and look at what’s actually there compared to that’s actually in surrounding towns. I usually find myself having to leave and go to QUEENSBURY or Saratoga or Lake George to find something entertaining. And the people? Don’t even get me started, it’s like many of the people here drank toxic water or need lots of psychiatric care. I don’t understand it. And there are not very many decent jobs, despite it not being a tiny area.

And no, it’s not ALL bad, but there’s so little that’s good that it’s not worth it for more than a couple of days. It is pretty, yes. Nice architecture. Crandall Park is BEAUTIFUL and a great place to spend a hot summer afternoon. Crandall Library has a good selection and if you can’t find what you want, there’s a large interlibrary loan system. And try Dango’s for their chicken wings, amazing! But that’s really about it. Rachel Ray doesn’t actually live here, and the Boston Candy Kitchen…shrugs New Way Lunch hot dogs are actually pretty gross too.

Worth Visiting If... by Doctor72

…if you like the focal point of this fair city, The Madden Hotel, a run down boarding house with more drunks and drug addicts, than you can shake a stick at.

…if you can believe all the hype surrounding the city of glens falls, such as…

Lie #1 That New Way Lunch has the greatest hot dogs in the world! Not!

Lie #2 That this really is Hometown USA! Not!

Lie #3 That South Street really is the Street of Dreams! Not!

Lie #4 That this really is a great place to live and that the people are really friendly here! Not!

Lie #5 That there is no crime in Glens Falls! There is!

Lie #6 That there are no homeless people in Glens Falls! There are!

Things to do: Things to do include sitting in Stewarts and reading magazines and drinking coffee and eating chili for hours at a time….

…Sitting at the Library and reading.

…Feeding the ducks at the park.

…watching the drunks and crazy people on South Street.

This is a nice place to visit, but get outta here as quick as humanly possible!

Glens Falls is fading in many ways, so it’s not exactly a bustling hub or a cultural hotspot. However, there are reasons to visit! Crandall Library is fabulous and should be visited. It’s also going to be expanding in the next few years, and at that point it will be really amazing. Glens Falls, like the area surrounding it, has a lot of history associated with it, so there are a lot of museums and historical sites. It has a cute downtown with a dinner-and-movie theater, a coffee shop, antiques, and other shopping. Crandall Park is very nice, and has some nice walking trails. The location is good for day trips to Saratoga Springs, Lake George, or even Albany, which is about an hour away.
