Oxnard Native by stargazr22_84

The few things I’m actually really proud of is we are the “Home of the Strawberries”, we’re one of the leading towns for harvesting strawberries. You can find strawberry stands every few feet in the back roads. For one flat, it is about $10 – and that’s a lot! Best time to get some is in May; we have the annual strawberry festival. Oxnard is also the “Gateway to the Channel Islands” (ex: Anacapa, Santa Catalina, Santa Cruz). And of course, I love the beaches (it’s also close to Malibu and Ventura). I love hiking in Sycamore Canyon and the old Victorian houses in downtown Oxnard (they were the firsts when this town was young).

Take it from a true Oxnard native. I was born and raised here. In the early years (80s & 90s), it was actually great. Not that much traffic, more farmland therefore more scenery, less houses, less gangs, and nicer people. Since the real estate boom came in, more and more houses are being built nonstop, destroying our farmlands, inconsiderate people on the road and more gangs. Oh, how I miss the good ’ol days…

However, after living here for all my life, I finally moved out and went to college just a little over a year ago. I’m so glad I don’t live there anymore because I’m the kind of person to travel and explore new things and possibilities. I do come back every now and then just to visit my family and friends who are still there. I know I’ve listed a few good things about the place, but I there will always be those memories of my past – things that I want to forget; that hurts me… I just want to move on, enjoy the present, and look to the future.

Oxnard, California by guscan

As an Oxnard Native I have had the chance to see this wonderful city grow. I love the fact that even as the city grows it also keeps most of its small town glamour. We are the host to the annual strawberry festival. We also have a great county fair in Ventura County. I love Oxnard and hope everyone has a chance to visit this wonderful city nd all the sourrounding cities as well.

As a military spouse, this is yet another place that I have lived. I lived in Oxnard for 3 yrs. The area where I lived is a very nice one. It’s a typical Southern California town, and lifestyle. There are lots of beaches and great shopping available. You can take the PCH to Malibu in 20 to 30 minutes, and it’s the prettiest drive (1 hr) to LAX, that there is!

Oxnard is home to the annual California Strawberry Festival, which occurs in May, I think. The Festival is a blast; lots of good food and entertainment. A plus about the area? Sometime celebrity spottings! Brad Pitt and Maddox were seen late last year shopping at the Oxnard Sports Chalet, and Sandra Bullock and hubby Jesse James ate at a local McDonalds!
