Middle Fork Of The Salmon River

This goal is coming true, I am about to move to Idaho, and I have a feeling this river trip will be doable from there!

With half and full day trips or overnight, Riggins, ID is the perfect place to start. The rapids are fantastic and the calm water in between is perfect for nature watching and swimming!

I can’t recommend the Middle Fork of the Salmon HIGHLY enough. This place is incredible. About 100 miles of raw nature with mankind doing a pretty good job of keeping it that way. Sure, lots of people whine about the permits, but the management of this area seems to be working. Thanks to all of you that were there before me for leaving no trace. If you EVER have a chance to take this trip, do not pass it up. Hopefully I can round up some great photos to add to this place although they will hardly do justice to the pristine wilderness that is to be found on the Middle Fork.

It was my fourth trip down the middle fork in the last 12 years. I nearly drowned, but it was an incredible experience that I wouldn’t give up for anything. And now I own my own raft…

I spent some of the best years of my life guiding on this river. Looking back on it nearly 20 years later, I realize that I loved every single minute of it! I would do it again in a heart beat! Every midwestern college kid should be so lucky as to land a job river guiding on this river. Main Salmon is nearly as awesome as the Middle Fork!
