2010 Winter Olympics

Chaos in Vancouver…

Lots of construction going on and complete chaos there on Friday with four cruise ships in town. Hopefully better organized for the Olympics. We’ve been wanting to go to the 2010 Olympics since it was announced. Once in a lifetime experience so close to home.

I watched the Torino Olympics Opening Ceremony on tv and found myself in my living room by myself crying—I am not an emotional person but for some reason seeing those athletes from all over the world in one space together…made me realize how important peace is. It was touching and I can only imagine how hearing “Imagine” in real life would have been.

We went to the 2006 Winter Games in Torino, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Everyone should go to the Olympics, so that they can get that feeling of being a part of the world as a whole. It is amazing to be in a place where pretty much everyone you meet is excited to be in that one spot – how often does that happen? I also recommend attending games outside of your home country; it helps you to better experience the games as a citizen of the world, as well as feel the full impact of the hospitality of the hosting country and its people. I’m looking forward to attending the 2010 games in Vancouver, as I’ll get all this with the benefit of a shorter plane ride!

There is nothing like attending the Olympics. I went to the 2002 Games in Salt Lake City. The whole experience took my breath away. I mean…how many times in your life is such a World Wide event held in your home town. Now, I am an Olympic junkie. I wanted to go to the games in Torino…but couldn’t get the funds together. I will be in Vancouver. I just have to see what this “Half Pipe” is all about! I am building a 2010 fund…and should be there with cow bells on! USA! USA! USA! See ya there!
