The small backwter area was very nice to canoe in. Beautiful area. I want to go back to get into the museum. The old cannons in the fort area interesting.

I love the beach here because I always see more wildlife than people. Being a very fair-skinned redhead I have to find other ways of enjoying the beach than trying to get tan. Thus, I love beaches with waildlife and clear water for my viewing pleasure. Thus, I love this beach.

A welcome change from typical Florida beaches  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

North Beach at Fort DeSoto was named the best beach in America in 2005, so when I lived in Lakeland that summer I took a day trip to see it. There was almost no one there; the smell of dead fish from a particularly bad red tide probably scared everyone away. It was gorgeous – unlike the other Florida beaches which all have boardwalks and hotels behind them, this one was totally natural, beautiful and completely isolated. It reminded me of Cape Cod. I wish I had gotten a chance to go back.

If you love nature – not the hot, crowded, sun worshiping beaches that Florida is best known for…...then this is the beach for you. History buffs will enjoy the fort, nature lovers will enjoy EVERYTHING. A dog run is nearby for our four legged friends.
