I love this place.

There is great people watching, they play great music, the workers are really great and attractive and they make fantastic coffee! Oooh and comfy seats and wireless. I spent much time there studying.

Suburbanites, Jimi Hendrix fans, and tap dancers

Every time I went there, usually at night, it was fun to sit with my computer and watch people who are clearly suburbanites, look around, order their coffee and leave because it’s not quite the type of people the expect to frequent such a place.

My second story is waiting in line to order my coffee, and the guy in front of me say how much he liked the Jimi Hendrix they were playing when it was clearly The Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.

My third story is coming in late on a Friday night to read the book I just bought at Powell’s and two girls, clearly friends of the barista (who would probably hate being called that), one friend giving the other a tap dancing lesson.

Tops

This is the BEST place in SE to hang on a rainy Sat/Sun morning. There is little wall space that isn’t a bookshelf, good tunes and cush (albeit pretty limited) seating … awesome to catch up on email or page thru a couple chapters. I really wish these guys the best tho it would def. suck to see a line of joggers and parents coming out the door.

Cool Music, Cute Indie Boys and Girls, and Comfy Couches

I’ve written about the Portland Coffee House in 2004 and in 2005: it’s a good place to hang out, especially at night. Surbanites and allies seem to come in thinking it serves coffee (a correct impression), and then don’t stick around because a lot of the people there have tattoos or piercings in interesting places. Cool music, cute indie boys and girls, and comfy couches. And the wifi is plentiful, of course.
