Salt Lick

I just went for the first time over the weekend. My general observations were:

• WAY too long of waiting time.
• Damn good BBQ, and I’ve had a lot in my day.
• A little pricey.

I don’t think the “Family Meal” deal (all you can eat everything for $18.95) is worth it unless you’re a massive eater. Any normal human being would be more than stuffed with a basic “combo plate”, and it’s $7 cheaper.

I don’t understand why people rave about this place. Maybe because everyone hears it has the best BBQ and they’re too embarrassed to admit that it wasn’t that great.

It takes 45 minutes to drive there, the BBQ is so-so, and there is only one side item: beans. Rudy’s BBQ is better than this place, plus there are several convenient locations all over Austin.

If you want to waste a lot of gas just to visit a restaurant that other people only claim to like because of cognitive dissonance, go ahead.

Mmmmm…Brisket, Sausages, Ribs…a whole BBQ meal to myself. I also enjoyed the fact that it was BYOB.

If you’re a foodie, and more particularly a foodie with a bent for down-home style food and big piles of meat on a plate, this is the place for you. Take a cooler of beer and sit at the picnic tables outside while you wait for your group to be called. It’s just a fun, laid-back place to be on a springtime night.
