Metro Monorail

If there’s one thing about Melbourne that makes it better than Sydney, it’s that it doesn’t have stupid bloody monorail.

I can’t beleive people pay money for this… let alone a lot of money.

Unfortunately the monorail only touches the surface of a much larger problem with our city. We’re almost entirely focussed on ‘showcasing’ itself to outsiders, we’re willing to charge our own citizens an arm and a leg for the privelage, and as a result the city has a ridiculously inflated economy which is based on nothing other than the smug self satisfaction which is a direct result of the attitude of the kind of city that has a monorail.

Something is rotten in the state of New South Wales.

How the hell could this be deemed expensive! Someone is taking the micky! It’s one of the least expensive things you can do in Sydney! It costs only $AU9 per adult ticket for a day pass (unlimited use of the monorail for a 24 hour period – whilst monorail is in operation), and children under 5 travel free…
I think it’s a must do when in Sydney. It’s only a short trip, and I suppose some COULD argue it isn’t worth the money for a short ride, but one loop around for a sightsee is well worth its $AU4.50 single loop adult cost price! And it does make light work of a journey from Pitt Street to Harbourside.

I think a part of becoming a grown up is that you manage to stop yourself from getting sucked in by things like monorails. Like everywhere, the monorail here is overpriced, doesn’t take you far, and doesn’t take you anywhere you couldn’t get just as easily by other forms of transport.

I suppose this could be a nice way to see the city. As someone who lives here, I find that it is expensive compared to other forms of public transport, and it doesn’t really go anywhere all that useful, and even when it goes somewhere it only does it one direction (it loops).

Nice monorail, been on it twice.
