Woot!!
I just returned saturday from this place.
Loved it. I thought I wouldn’t have much to do there besides the boat ride to the flamingos and the beach, but there is much more. We took a bike ride to Real de Salinas (ex-salt producing hacienda) and took a walk in the ‘Peten’...kindda like a jungle tour, it was interesting and exciting although we didnt get to see any wild animals. Except for what I think it was a Royal Eagle (the eagle eating the snake in the mexican crest).
Anyways, i gotta say, im glad i went to this place, there are not many like this left in the world and im glad it is a natural federal and itnernational reserve. if things run smoohtly, it will be there forever.

Flamingo sanctuary
Celestun is a town that sits on the Gulf coast, about 1 hour from Merida. It’s worth the drive. The place is famous for their bird sanctuary. Once you get there, they have boat tours of the sanctuary. They take you deep into the jungle, turn off the motor (kinda spooky) and drift into the sanctuary. Its a lagoon with hundred of thousands flamingos, resting, flying and landing. The place will leave you speechless. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you take a drive out to see this.
