Did a day trip to Iona

which involved driving through Mull. It looked beautiful and I was sorry that we didn’t have any time to stop and explore.

A review of this place: A wonderful place even when it's raining...

I spent a week on the Island staying at a self-catering cottage called the Dairy which was approximately 5 miles south of the Island’s capital Tobermory.

I travelled about the island by car along some of the most exciting single track roads I’ve driven in Scotland. One section of road was just breathtaking – the B8035 driving underneath Creag Mhor

I also travelled down to Fionnport and took the ferry to Iona – not for some deeply religious reason – I’m not relgious – just because I’ve heard about the abbey there and it’s supposed to be beautiful. It is and well worth the trip.

I also spent an afternoon walking among the trees of Calgary Wood and the art installation there. It was both a beautiful but sad experience. Beautiful because the art was so apt to it situation but sad because it was in neglected. It seemed that passers by the wood decided not to visit but rather spend time at the beautiful sandy beach at Calgary Bay.

Visit Starfish Ceramics if you can. Very nice pieces and so much nicer than the normal pottery offerings.

Ate well on Mull (except one night which I put down to them having a bad day)

Best:
Highland Cottage in Tobermory

Most surprising (in a good way):
Glengorm Castle tearoom

Not so good:
Mediterranea Italian Restaurant , Salen

Best snacks:
Pottery shop , Tobermory.

Why I recommend this place to visitors

Mull is picture postcard idyllic, and if you get there on the right day, the scenary is spectacular.

Wildlife’s a main feature here, but you’ll find the locals pretty damn friendly too.

very serene

Beautiful countryside, nice castles, friendly locals (we hitchiked and weren’t kidnapped), and cute towns nearby. Highly recommended.
