Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 month ago

Worth visiting!

I didn’t get to go inside but it’s incredibly impressive from the outside. It’s surrounded by a lovely green space which was covered with people enjoying the sunshine and admiring the view.

I’d like to come back one day and do the “tower” tour, which is meant to be quite hair raising with lots of tiny winding staircases!

Worth visiting!

When I gazed upon the names that had been carved into the stone walls of the cathedral, I was reminded of the saying, the more things change-the more they stay the same!
A Tip for Jane Austen fans- her crypt stone is laid into the floor of the Cathedral. I posted a photo of both

A Medieval Wonder That Still Surprises!  — 3 years ago

Work first began on Winchester Cathedral in 1089 to create what would become the longest medieval cathedral in existence (526 feet): famous for its soaring twelve-bay nave, it is one of England’s greatest, as lovely from without as within.
