Not worth visiting!
I Finally Made It Inside
I’ve walked past the Smithsonian Castle several times over the past few years. I have always been intrigued by the exterior design. Unfortunately the stars never aligned. Either I had no time to go in, or when the I did have time the building was closed.
On my most recent visit to DC I finally had an opportunity to go inside while the building was open.
While I’m not complaining about it, it just seemed a little bit anticlimactic. It was kind of like a museum about a museum. It talked about the Smithsonian itself and gave a little information about Mr. Smithson who set up the endowment to make the museum possible. There was even a sarcophagus on display which held Mr. Smithson’s remains.
Like I said, I have no complaint with the museum per se, but I think that my time could be better utilized by seeing many of the other landmarks in DC.

This was a Dream Vacation for me...
that I finally got to realize in 2002. Until I visited, I thought the Smithsonian was just one building! In fact the Castle is just a fraction of what the Smithsonian really is. I NEED to go back to see everything that I didn’t get a chance to visit!
