Worth visiting!

The first time I went to this place

it was back in 1994. It was such a pleasant surprise for us who lived in the city to be in a place filled with farms and rolling hills and the countryside….The Amish farm and village was a beautiful experience for us. The serenity and the calmness of the countryside just captivated us and we went back several times in quick succession for a couple of years. I guess we were there in 1998 and then we had’nt been there until 2007. It shocked me to see how dramatically the place has changed. The Amish Farm that I remember was nothing like it. it was surrounded by huge shopping malls and the countryside was all gone….I almost wept seeing the place transformed by these huge big box retailers who have gobbled up all of the serenity and peace.

Worth visiting!

shoe fly pie

The shoe fly pie is pretty delish. Actually everything we ate there was delish! The amish buggy ride was pretty cool. I loved walking through the country stores, eating the pretzels, The Outhouse (its a weird store there), and just generally wandering about. I will however, recommend you not stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Lancaster (near the visitors center). Most of the staff was rude. There was a nice woman named Bonnie and a nice blonde girl that were not at all rude though. We had some problems checking in (cos the manager charged my card without giving me the total first!!! So she put me in danger of over-drafting. Thankfully she was able to correct the error. But always be careful when checking into hotels on your debit card. They will not only hold your total for the room, but about $33 per day for incidentals above that! So even tho we told her, turn off our phones and movies, she still held on our card an extra $66 dollars. If possible, always pay cash and tell them to turn off your phones and movies!! I worked in a hotel before, so I know what I’m talking about)
My only other complaint about Lancaster was this walking ghost tour we went on. It was alright, but not worth doing. The girl didn’t take us to any haunted spots cept for a cemetary. She basically just walked us around and told us about haunted areas that we were nowhere near. der :P

The first time I went to this place

It was boring …

However, I dont think I really should say anything, because the only thing I saw there was the Amish farmlands.
