The Axe  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

The Axe represents the strong ties to the Forestry Industry in this area.

It represents a lot of memories for me. A friend in high school had a boyfriend we used to come visit up here. And we would drink pop and hang out by the axe.

I remember driving into town when we moved here from Moncton and getting a chuckle out of my first axe memory.

I remember the Rally held after Landegger unceremoniously closed the Ste Anne Nackawic mill after 30 years. The towns folk were devastated.

I remember the fabulous homecomings we had for Casey LeBlanc, the 17 year old Nackawic girl who made it to the Top 5 of Canadian Idol. She did so in the hopes to improve the spirit of the townsfolk after the mill closure. And that she did, she will never be forgotten for that.

The town and province collaborated to have the section of the 105 Provincial Highway that runs past town, renamed Casey Way.

Casey was touched beyond belief when they did this and we all loved her for trying to make us happy. I drive along Casey Way every day and think about how this young girl gripped the imagination and spirit of our town by singing in a national singing contest.

Nackawic is the home to the largest axe in the world. The town is built around forestry and the massive axe represents the importance of the industry to the town. It’s huge, but it’s not a real, functional axe.
