Introduction to Girona

Founded by the Romans, Girona is one of the most important historical sites in Spain. Later, it became a Moorish stronghold. Later still, it reputedly withstood three invasions by Napoléon's troops (1809). For that and other past sieges, Girona is often called "The City of a Thousand Sieges."
