…I was casually driving along the Spain’s wonderful roadways and was very much in the mood to see a walled, medieval city. As fate would have it I stumbled upon Avila and got exactly what I was asking for. The town is amazing, not only because it’s walls represent the best preserved examples of medieval defenses, but it’s set along a beautiful river in a beautiful region of Spain.
I did not spend enough time there. I hope to go back…

Ávila de los Caballeros (Latin: Abila and Óbila) is the capital of the province of the same name, now part of the autonomous community of Castile and León, Spain (see map).
