Hastings

When I was a kid, we would go down to Hastings every weekend and ride our jetskis. I would also climb the massive cliff (solely with no chair lift) and eat ice cream whilst walking past some of the remaining ship wrecks. Well, now it’s all changed for the worse. I went down there a few weeks ago and you are no longer aloud to climb the cliff, the icecream tastes crap and everything just looks like it’s gone down hill. Unless you are interested in the Battle of Hastings, it’s not really worth the visit.

Hastings is a great little community. Regardless of how crazy my day has been, I feel happy to know that I’ll be taking the little roundabout drive home to my place on main street. It’s not touristy but it is charming. I live a block from the Mississippi River. There are the bluffs of the St Croix viewable from my window. It’s beautiful. I feel calm here.

If there is one place I do miss it is my home town of Hastings. I miss all my friends from school

I have always wanted for so long to leave Hastings. I wanted so desperately to get out. However, now that I am at college, I realize what was impossible for me to realize while I was there. And that is that it is where my home is. That I can never escape that place. Nor do i want to. Herman Melville said, “Life’s a voyage that’s homeward bound.” And that is so true.
