Established in 1772 as a Tavern/School House by soldier and scholar Andrew McMinn, this historical building has had many changes the past 231 years. With a rich past in Newtown’s community and cultural heritage the Temperance House has also been an oyster bar & ice cream parlor, a Revolutionary War Generals meeting place, a stage coach stop, and the subject of famed artist, Edward Hicks.

The Temperance House today has been renovated to retain its historical integrity and county charm wile providing today’s patrons with a superb dining & a unique lodging experience.
