Outside the Station
Well… we got to the RCI Shortwave Station and I went up to the door and rang the doorbell. When the technician came to the door my son and I found out that they were too busy to give us a tour because of a recent holiday. So we weren’t able to go inside and just stayed on the road and took a few pictures.
I’ll have to go back for a tour with my son some other time. I still find the towers fascinating, though.

Shortwave Towers
Radio Canada International has 13 shortwave transmission towers just outside of Sackville, New Brunswick on the Tantramar Marshes. They are beside the highway and if you travel between New Brunswick and Nova Scotia you can’t help but see them. They were built in 1943 and they are part of the shortwave service of the CBC and they also broadcast programs for the shortwave services of other countries.
When you are driving from Nova Scotia to New Brunswick you can pull off the road to get a bit closer, but there are warning signs about the powerful radiation that is there (which can seriously injure you). During July and August you can go to the building and go on a tour of the facilities.
