Saint-Rémy-de-Provence

I spent six months during the winter of 05/06 here. I fairly frequently went biking over the Alpilles on the GR. They’re stunning, and the countryside over beyond Les Baux, also. Beware the Mistral though, gets mighty powerful when it blows. This shot reminds me of Van Gogh’s wheatfield with cypress that I later realised was painted somewhere nearby.

I could live here. I came for three days and it was so hard to leave to continue my trip. Looking back on it, I would’ve rather cancelled my plans in all of Italy and stayed in St. Remy until it was time to go home. The train ride from Paris to Avignon and the bus ride from Avignon to St. Remy had breathtaking scenery, with fields of lavender, olive trees, and sunflowers. There were ancient Gaul ruins near where we stayed, and the bed and breakfast we stayed at was the most delightful, charming place ever. Its a little corner of the world I wish I could declare home.
