Old Town

I didn’t realize what a great place Old Town was. My first evening in Alexandria I had arranged to meet some of my coworkers at a restaurant. We were staying at different hotels, so I just walked down King Street and met them at the restaurant. I was amazed by what I saw after having gone just a few short blocks from the hotel.

The Old Town area is a beautifully preserved area. The colonial style of the buildings has been maintained for the most part. There are numerous good restaurants. There was an endless variety of good food to be had. I loved the fragrant aromas that came from many of them as I walked by. I was pleasantly surprised to see how reasonably priced most of the restaurants were.

There are also a number of eclectic shops on the street as well as a smattering of museums and souvenir shops.

There is also a ghost tour that is offered in the evenings. I had wanted to go, but the best laid plans…

Old Town Alexandria is one of my favorite places in Northern Virginia. Great restaurants, waterfront parks, fun bars, and even good shopping. Awesome

Every Saturday morning on Market Square there is a farmer’s market. In addition to fresh produce, there are flowers, handcrafted items and baked goods. See also my post of May 21 on Alexandria Daily Photo.

Ate at the Fish Market

Old Town is a very neat area. Some of the streets are cobblestone, there is a lot of shopping, a few fountains, and some great restaurants. You can even rent bikes and ride the Mt. Vernon Trail. I highly recommend coming here.
