Rijeka

It’s worth visiting. But not because it’s great.

Most everything is really run down. There are ancient Roman sites here, but it’s not well taken care of, falling down to rubble, and extremely hard to find. There’s also a 14th century castle just up the hill. Again, not very well taken care of and falling down.

There’s a wonderful church where Mary supposedly brought Jesus as a boy. There’s also plenty of shopping experiences in this city. Otherwise, it’s just a port city, pretty dumpy. Also, since it’s the biggest city in the area, it’s also the most expensive.

It is absolutely the BEST city in the Mediteranean area!

Rijeka just has it all – fantastic crystal-clear sea, great shopping areas, lots of completely different restaurants and caffés to suit everyone’s interest and it looks just beautiful on top of everything.

I’ve been there three years ago for the first time and am returning ever since.

If you want to visit Croatian seaside, you must not miss this place!

my grandmother was an italian born in rijeka after WWI… and she had to leave. and then i happened to meet one of my (now) best friends on the internet and wonder wonder! she’s from rijeka.

i feel a certain connection to this city, its cafes, its streets, its people. i love being there, every time. i’ve had so many adventures… drunken nights… and just overall fun with my croatian friends.

it’s definitely worth visiting.
