“Welcome to Saipan!”
Those are the words on the poster next to me as I posed for my very first photo here in Saipan. And after being here now for almost a year, I most definitely do feel welcome.
My name is Walt Goodridge. You may know me as the author of several books, workshops and the creator of a philosophy and formula designed to help people turn their passions into profit. A good friend introduced me to Saipan just when I was looking to re-invent myself as a “nomadpreneur.” Within 10 days of landing, I was welcomed by Senator Frica Pangelinan and Congresswoman Cinta Kaipat, invited to speak to the cabinet by the Governor, and I now write a weekly column for the Saipan Tribune; There’s so much that I love about Saipan. To start, visually it’s just like my homeland of Jamaica. The weather is great! It retains a natural, unmanicured beauty (they build sidewalks around the trees here!), fruit trees abound, the people are warm and friendly, customer service is great, and after living in New York City for over 20 years, it was quite refreshing to experience customer service from people who actually seem to care about the customer. What a concept!
In any event, I’m just one of many people on the island who enjoy living here. Check out www.WeLoveSaipan.com for more

Seriously this place blows unless you are into Scuba Diving…
The only thing there is a Hard Rock Cafe and a bunch of shady massage parlors.

I’ve visited Saipan a bunch of times and seen all that can be seen. I have to say if you want to visit beautiful beachs and serenity go and take a ferry or if you’d like a short flight to Tinian. It’s an island close to Saipan and very peaceful. I lived there for a couple of years and there aren’t any fast-food place, no malls, there is this huge casino/hotel.

I lived here for a couple of years, and I had taken my stay for granted.
I would honestly love to revisit this place! It’s so great. Managaha island was and probably continues to be beautiful.
The last time I spent on the beaches, there seemed to be some sort of a pollution problem, but I assume the local authorities have managed to fix it.
The street market held every Thursday was great! A Sunday outing at the beach was typical but always injected with fun memories.
So worth it.

WHY? Shawn’s family is from there and his mom still lives there. His brother goes a couple times a year.
WHY NOT? It takes a ridiculous amount of time to get there… something close to 18 straight in flight hours with seperate flying time to Hawaii and then Japan before even starting the long part of the trip. and his mom still lives there. PLUS expensive to get there.

I don’t know what to say because it’s sort of a “twilight zone” place, but there are definitely things I like about it namely the beautiful, clear water. The scuba diving is great and there are some fun activities like hiking and hashing.
